Model 566
The Model 566, designed in 1956, embodies Gino Sarfatti’s reductive process, which results in a balanced, elementary form. The lamp is in equilibrium in the idea of a forward movement it insinuates. The focus lies on the contrasting luminaire containing the characteristic Cornalux-bulb, cleverly supported by a simple rubber ring to ensure continuous adjustability. The base, originally made from cast iron, is now made of aluminium, magnesium and copper, ensuring a better corrosion resistance. The manufacturing is exceptionally eco-friendly and the materials are recyclable.
The design approach is underlined by the classic on/off button, integrated into the base, giving off a satisfying ‘click’.
The choice of the Cornalux-illuminant, which has been out of production for a few years, allows the strictly minimalist design, seeing as the bulb itself contains a reflector. Cornalux specifically manufactures the bulbs for the Model 566 in a custom version allowing for an energy efficient, durable LED-technology while staying true to the original design with half silver-plated glass and a bayonet fitting.
