Sun is setting on the Rokko Mountains. In the old neighbourhood of Kitano, you stroll among curious European houses built by former nostalgic foreign residents. From the streets overlooking Osaka Bay rises a warm, spicy scent of crystallised ginger, a cool, tingly fragrance of coriander root and the unctuosity of sweet fig.

 

The scented candles are of the highest quality, made of a mix of plant-based and beeswax, with a wick made of pure braided cotton and a burning period of 60-70 hours. They are, quite literally, made in Europe: The ceramic holder is made by hand in the old Napoleonic silversmith workshops in Paris, the glass holder is mouth-blown in Tuscany. There are also matching, handmade lids with unusual decorative elements.
