Radiofonografo by Brionvega
The stereosystem which fell to earth – well, not quite. But let’s take a step back into the 1960s, when the US and Soviet Union were racing for the domination of space. Space Age ruled design. Cars looked like rockets, living rooms like space ships.
The hi-fi system most following this zeitgeist is indubitably the Radiofonografo by Brionvega. Is this a robot with little eyes, a row of teeth, and exceptionally large ears? Who knows, but David Bowie, famously lending a soundtrack to the era with” The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars” and playing an alien in “The man who fell to earth”, and Karl Lagerfeld are both Radiofonografo-fans – Bowie’s Radiofonografo went for a whopping 257.000 GBP at a Sotheby’s auction in 2016.
Thanks to a re-edition, the Radiofonografo is now available with modern technology. It is handmade in Italy by Brionvega and is available in three colors or walnut.
