The Whisky Chair was designed by Finn Juhl in 1948 and is characterized by its designer’s artistic sense for form, function and detail. Finn Juhl was one of the pillars of modern Danish Design, his sculptural furniture helped cement Denmark’s status as a pioneering nation of furniture design.

 

The exclusive chair was introduced originally at the 1948 Cabinetmaker’s Guild Exhibition as part of Finn Juhl’s concept ‘The Living Room of an Art Collector’, but was not put into production.

 

Finn Juhl was known to be daring, not minding to stand alone, not paying any regard to critics calling his designs too extravagant. His approach to design was one of freedom, not one of considerations of the commercial success of his pieces.

 

It is time for his bold Whisky Chair to make a comeback – not only is it extravagant, but also playfully provocative. The right armrest fans out, creating space for a hand-made half-moon shaped brass tray. The tray can be folded out to reveal a full circle, creating a hole in the brass to hold a glass. Finn Juhl’s original water color drawing from 1948 shows two chairs matching perfectly, with the right and left armrest asymmetrical.

 

The chair is made from American walnut wood of pristine quality and upholstered by hand. Additionally, it is outfitted with the characteristic brass feet.
