Louis Poulsen Lighting Collection
Thinking about lighting will take you to Louis Poulsen Lighting Collection sooner or later. The traditional Danish light manufacturer has been a mainstay of groundbreaking lighting-design and the manufacturer of world-renowned lamp models for more than 100 years. Whether we are talking table lamp, wall lamp, pendant lamp, free-standing luminaire, or outdoor light – Louis Poulsen offers a great variety of aesthetic and interesting light sources.
Arne Jacobsen, Verner Panton, Poul Henningsen
Part of this stems from the fact that the company collaborated with revolutionary designers of their time, such as
Arne Jacobsen
Verner Panton and
Poul Henningsen,
Their leading designer from the 1920-1960s. These collaborations bore classics like the popular PH-lamps, the psychedelic Pathella-series or the legendary Artichoke. In addition, Louis Poulsen managed to successfully integrate models initially designed for public spaces, such as the Doo Wop pendant, originally made for the building administration of the Royal Danish Navy, into their product range.
One of their most well known lamps is without a doubt Poul Henningsen’s PH5. This pendant has been a design aficionado favorite since the 1950s and has since not lost any of its original elegance. On the contrary, its reedition, the PH5 Mini – we like to think of it as the PH5’s little sister – has complemented the timeless shape with a variety of pretty new colors, as well as the materials copper and brass.
Much like Jacobsen, Henningsen, and Panton, who broke with the old in the 1950s and 60s, many of the designs put forth by Louis Poulsen today are trailblazing in their simple beauty. In that sense, the designs of exciting new talents like Louise Campbell, Øivind Slattu, Anu Moser or Clara von Zweigbergk take their natural place next to the industry’s big names.
Both the old guard and the new at Louis Poulsen Lighting Collection take their inspiration from their surroundings, which at some times may be more obvious than at other times:
While we may not immediately recognize the colorful tents from the fair that Clara von Zweigbergk drew her inspiration from, the mushrooms that started Verner Panton’s creative process for the Panthella lamp, virtually grow from our table.
Function, Comfort and Atmosphere of Louis Poulsen Lamps
All Louis Poulsen designs follow the company’s guiding principle of function, comfort, and atmosphere. A clean look, precise workmanship, and functionality are at the heart of all the lamps and stand on an equal footing with style. This results in well thought-out, useful lamps, whose timeless beauty and high quality guarantee can be enjoyed for many years to come.
Whether it be the AJ luminaire, Pantera or PH-Series – all of the Louis Poulsen lamps are based on precise calculations which determine the optimal angles of incident light, adjusted to the purpose a specific lamp is to serve: diffuse or focused, bright or soft, strong or subtle.
Excellent Design
The form and function of Louis Poulsen Lighting Collection has always been recognized in international design competitions, as well as Danish and international jury- and popular prizes. Red Dot, Lamp of the Year, Danish Design Classic Award – there is rarely a relevant competition where Louis Poulsen lamps did not place highly.
