About Marni

Founded in 1994 by Consuelo Castiglioni, the Italian Fashion House is loved and admired for its experimental collections today more than ever. The multi-faceted and playful style, unique cuts and unusual material combinations delight the fashion circus each season.

The latest designs from the hand of head-designer Francesco Risso are highly anticipated each year. Risso has been in charge of the cult label since 2016 and thrills us with Marni designs grounded in authentic craftsmanship, extravagant prints and exceptional styles.

Risso himself says he never knows where the fun begins and where it ends. He is lucky enough to work for a brand which he loves wholeheartedly – which is why fun always plays a part. If this were not the case, Risso thinks, we would break one of the most important rules in fashion: It is not just about fun, but it should always be fun.

We completely agree and can feel this sentiment in each fiber when wearing Marni: Marni is just fun.

The cuts put an emphasis on comfort and coziness, resulting in gender neutral fashion pieces, that are, above all, one thing: straight-forward. Marni pieces are perfect for mixing and matching, allowing for print combinations in the spirit of the Marni philosophy. Marni is not only known for high-quality Mohair sweaters and cardigans, but also their bag and shoe collections, which are a highlight each season.

Whether a collection is eclectic, casual or austere – the creative interplay between designer and tailor speaks from all pieces. Each production step is interwoven with affectionate and high-level craftsmanship, from the first sparking idea to countless patterns to the draping on the dress form and finally the review of the final piece on the model.

(Fashion) conscious

Each of Marni’s pieces, be it a dress, skirt, jacket or scarf, is made based on the so-called atelier principle. Not only are the used fabrics made by the best weavers and silk printers in northern Italy, but the pieces are produced exclusively in Italian ateliers, manufactures and master workshops. The result of this resolute adherence to an ‘Anti-Industrialism’ is fashion, which meets the highest standards of not only optics, but also craftsmanship.

This approach to production is diametrically opposed to the wide-spread Fast Fashion nowadays – the ever-faster consumption- and production cycles in fashion, whose manufacturing conditions are damaging to people and the environment.
Marni, on the other hand, is an advocate of Slow Fashion, a more balanced approach to fashion, whose central notion is respecting people and nature, producing pieces that make their wearers happy for many years instead of just one season.

In that sense, Marni fashion collection is the complete opposite of off the shelf mass products – maybe this is the reason fashion-conscious customers love it so much.
