Enjoyment and fun are two things to be considered thoroughly these days – not, because a choir of politically involved children starts preaching in the twinkling of an eye, but rather, because our consumption behavior always impacts our natural environment. Reflecting on the aspects we can act more responsibly on goes without saying, for many people young and old.
Granted, maybe this sounds easier than it is. This is why experts collect data to calculate our entire ecological footprint. Capsule coffee machines, for instance, use less water and energy compared to fully automatic coffee machines with a grinder. Filter coffee only does better when only exactly as much coffee is brewed as the consumer intends to drink. The biggest impact of all is the cultivation of coffee itself – not exactly a glorious ecological balance here. Apparently, the production of one cup of conventional coffee uses up more than 140 liters of water and produces between 50-100 grams of CO2. Beyond that: deforestation, monoculture, use of pesticides and fertilizers, the working conditions on coffee plantations.
Purchasing coffee from certified sustainable sources lowers the ecological impact significantly, bringing the aforementioned numbers down, and once again putting the question of how to prepare the coffee to the forefront. If you only enjoy the occasional cup of coffee and use biodegradable or reusable capsules, a capsule coffee machine can be an eco-friendly solution.
This is the basic idea which formed the foundation of Sjöstrand Coffee Concept. At first, the two founders developed a high-quality coffee machine, which, unlike many models available today, is made to last. The exterior made from stainless steel is not only attractive, but also makes a statement against short-lived product life-cycles with its simple, classic design. The high-pressure pump goes up to 19 bar – a deciding factor for the perfect cup of coffee together with the right temperature.
Sjöstrand offers six coffee specialties in biodegradable capsules. Every variety is 100% organic and fair-trade and climate positive certified.
The machine is made from stainless steel and has a classic design, made to last. And of course makes good coffee at the push of a button.
The machine is compatible with capsules from other brands, but Sjöstrand complements their offer with their own coffee range: 100 percent organic, fair-trade and climate positive certified. This means that Sjöstrand compensates more CO2 than what is produced when making their coffee. The capsules are made from starch and plant fibers, e.g. sugar cane. Along with a Belgian coffee roaster, the Swedes came up with six flavors, five Espressi and one Lungo. The elegant beans are from Ethiopia, India, Guatemala, Colombia, and Peru, among other places.
To match the coffee machine Sjöstrand offers a milk frother, which can heat and froth milk automatically, without the need for supervision – an overheating protector safeguards against unwanted accidents and the coated interior makes cleaning easier.
We love that the Sjöstrand founders do not pretend to be perfect. Instead, they want to make coffee consumption more sustainable, and strive to bring together lifestyle and the environment with innovation. We are very happy about this, since at Falkenberg, we like to check the products we offer against these criteria as well.
Would you like to see the Sjöstrand machine in person or taste a Sjöstrand coffee? We are looking forward to your visit to our showroom!
