Charlotte Perriand
cc-tapis

Are you familiar with Charlotte Perriand? If not, don’t be surprised. Le Corbusier, whom the French architect and designer worked with for many decades starting in 1927, overshadowed her oeuvre with his big name for a long time. It is even said that a some of the pioneering work of Studio Corbusier was created by the politically and socially active artist. Perriands vision extended beyond coming up with fancy furniture for wealthy people — instead, she envisioned straightforward, intelligent solutions for everyone.

This was the approach she chose when planning some of the visionary buildings in the famed winter sports resort Les Arcs in the 1960s. A cost effective and therefore innovative way of construction was to make skiing accessible to a broader public. Perriand’s original idea was to cover the inside walls in textile paneling, however, this was never implemented due to cost. More than fifty years later, the designs were transferred to rugs patterns at the initiative of Charlotte Perriand’s daughter, Pernette Perriand-Barsac.

The Italian rug manufacturer cc-tapis has these geometric designs hand-knitted in Nepal in
the following sizes: 230 cm x 300 cm, 300 cm x 400 cm, and 100 cm x 350 cm. Custom sizing is also possible.

Are you as thrilled as we are? If so, we will be happy to welcome you in our showroom to take a look at one original piece as well as samples for all other available Perriand rugs.
