In ancient Greece, the stag is a sacred animal, just like in Nordic Mythology, and Japanese Shintoism – the stag presents itself as a cross-culturally relevant animal. August Göhring’s Lying Stag depicts the majestic, gentle aura which has fascinated humankind throughout the millennia.
