Nymphenburg Passion Flower

Conrad Linck, ca. 1770
Porzellanmanufaktur Nymphenburg

When Christian conquerors discovered the lavish blossoms of the passion flower in the underbrush of the Brazilian jungle, they saw in it symbols of the passion of Christ: its three styles as the nails, its five anthers as stigmata, its corona as crown of thorns, its ten petals as the ten apostles present at the crucifixion and finally its three bracts as a symbol of the holy trinity.

Conrad Linck’s passion flower is toying with Christian symbolism and shows us a version that seems to be on the brink of blossoming. It is handmade from glazed porcelain and hand painted with great detail. We will be happy to provide consulting in our showroom with regard to this unique piece.
