Super Elliptical Table
In 1959, the scientist, inventor and literary figure Piet Hein mused over how to solve the traffic problems at Sergels Torg. His approach to streamlining this central place in Stockholm was a super-elliptical, a geometrical shape, essentially a cross between a rectangle and a circle. This mathematically sophisticated shape was also used in this table by Arne Jacobsen, designed in 1968, the allure being that it offers a coequal seat to everyone seated.
Much alike, the style combinations are also democratic: anything goes when it comes to the colors for the Fenix-laminate table top and different sets of frames (which were designed in a collaboration of Bruno Matthson and Arne Jacobsen) – whoever feels blue upon looking at the grey ensemble in the picture, take a peek at the color “Pink Colorado”….
